After contacting the museum Kongernes Jelling, the curator informs us that the stone is part of their exhibition and you have to pay admission to see it 😩

The Hamborggård Stone is a large traveller's boulder that the ice age picked up at the Åland Islands and left here. So that's as far as it got - this is where the glacier melted and couldn't transport the stones any further. So actually, you're very close to the ice margin line or the main stand line

Or was it, as the legends say, Harald Bluetooth who was in the process of moving the stone to Jelling, but gave up and had to leave the stone behind when his son, Svein Forkbeard, rebelled against him? Moving the stone went a little better for the Defence Command in 1990 - they moved the stone to its current location. It was originally 20 metres to the west and underground.

The stone is made of porphyritic granite and measures approximately 4.5 x 4.5 metres and is about 3 metres high. The shape is irregular, with many cracks at the top and sides and a number of fissures. The weight is estimated at 50 tonnes. The large stone is followed by two smaller stones of the same material.

Klebæk Høje, also known as Bækkemonumentet, is located on the northern outskirts of Bække in South Jutland. It is an ancient monument complex with three historical periods in the same place, making it one of the most significant historical sites along Hærvejen.

Klebæk Høje or Bækkemonumentet is a small group of ancient monuments along Hærvejen about 1 km north of Bække, consisting of two Bronze Age burial mounds and a 45 metre long Viking Age ship settlement. The rune stone Bække-stenen 2 forms the western end of the ship's settlement.

The National Museum of Denmark excavated the ship settlement in 1957-1958, but only found a grave with a piece of iron and some clay shards. Of the original 60 stones, only 9 remain. The missing stones were marked with smaller stones after the excavation, which were replaced with steel plates in 2011. At one point, the army road ran right through the ship settlement, which can still be seen in the terrain.

The Læborg stone is a rune stone found in Læborg in the 1600s. According to Ole Worm, the rune stone was located in a field north of Læborg church. Denmark's runic inscriptions mention that it was probably erected in this field close to the old army road. The rune stone has several rows of cleft holes and the runes at the top of the stone are damaged. A fragment was recovered in 1888 and inserted at the top of the B line. The stone is ornamented with two Thor's hammers; one ending the first line of runes and one ending the second line of runes.

The Læborg stone stands in front of Læborg Church.

In Old Norse, „Othala“ translates to „ancestral property“ or „heritage“. This rune is associated with heritage, both in the sense of material wealth and spiritual or cultural traditions. It symbolises the connection to one's heritage and ancestors, and represents a spiritual home or sense of belonging.

Runes are a Germanic writing systemwhich was developed from the Mediterranean alphabets in the centuryredafter the birth of Christ. The rune alphabet is called the „futharken“ because it is named after the first 6 characters f-u-þ-a-r-k. The strange rune þ stands for a breathing sound right on the teeth, like in the English „throw“ or „thing“.

Runes were used as a writing system in the Iron Age, Viking Age and Middle Ages. Both the language and the runes changedredover the more than 1000 years of writing with runes. Writing in runes did not stop until well into the Middle Ages, perhaps in the 15th century, but runes have been used ever since, both as cryptographic writing and as a curiosity.

Store Rygbjergstenen stands at Frederikshåb northwest of Egtved. The runestone, which dates back to the 10th century, was found in 1874. The inscription has been called Denmark's first love poem.

The stone stands on a small burial mound and bears the inscription: „Bryden Tue erected this stone over Thorgunn his physician. These staves will live long“. In Danish, this means that Tue raised the stone over his wife's grave.

The stone was once split but is now back in its original place.

Skibelund Krat is today a monument park. In 1865, after the loss of Southern Jutland, the site was established as a national meeting and festival site, which today is surrounded by memorials to Danish personalities such as Ludvig Schrøder, Poul la Cour and H.D. Kloppenborg.

The installation of memorial stones in Skibelund Krat was quickly followed by more, and today there are a total of 22 memorial stones in Skibelund Krat. The most popular works of art in Skibelund are the Mother Tongue and the Magnus Stone. Skibelund Krat is a significant site in relation to the Reunification.

A full tank should be able to make the journey, which is about 90 km.

We follow in the footsteps of Harald Bluetooth - looking at rune stones and a few large boulders in southern Jutland. The tour ends in Jelling (Se leaflet about Jelling).

This is a full day tour. Bring a packed lunch and drinks.

The Tirslund Stone (Tislund Stenen) is freely accessible in a grove in Tirslund Plantation. It is a real climbing stone with a circumferenceredof 16 metres and a large notch at the top, which it got in 1792 when the local priest tried to blow it up.

The Tirslund Stone consists of gneiss granite with elongated red-brown calcite crystals that are clearly aligned. The crystals are typically 5-6 cm long and 1-2 cm wideredand often with twins. In between are quartz and light-coloured plagioclase. The black minerals are probably hornblende.

The Tirslund Stone is located on Holsted Hill Island between Holsted and Brørup in the marginal moraine landscape to which the Tirslund Mountains belong. The Tirslund Stone has been exposed to radiation from the sky for almost 75,000 years. So it saw the light of day again after travelling encapsulated in the ice sheet 75,000 years ago. The exposure time suggests that the Tirslund Stone was brought to Tirslund during the last ice age in the Middle Vistula. The Ristinge Ice Stream 55-50,000 years ago now reached about 25 kilometres further west than the Main Advance, which stood at the Main State Line 23-21,000 years ago. The field stones in the area are predominantly Baltic and possibly Swedish in origin. It is not unlikely that the Tirslund Stone comes from the Baltic Sea region.

The Tirslund Stone has a notch in the top. It happened in 1792 when the local priest tried to blow it up. The destruction was stopped and the pieces are at the foot of the stone. A bird is carved into the top of the stone.

The Tirslund Stone has a notch in the top after a priest tried to blow it up in 1792 Gold sledge, trolls and gods The Tirslund Stone and Hamborggård Stone are associated with the legend that Harald Bluetooth tried to have the giant stone dragged to Jelling on an iron or gold sledge. The sledge is said to still be there, as no one has managed to dig it out.

Several troll legends are told about the Tirslund Stone. One troll is said to have thrown it at Føvling Church in envy that he - the troll - had no steeple on his own church. Another troll is said to have thrown the stone at Brørup Church. Tirslund is reminiscent of the god of war, Tyr, who was probably worshipped in the forest grove.
